I love all the projects that students create from my books. This is a cute diorama from Burro's Tortillas.
As a little girl of only seven, I remember standing in the library with my mom patiently waiting to check out more summer reading books and thinking some day, I would sure like to write my own book and have it in a library. However, that dream faded as I grew up a bit and became too self-conscious to show anyone else my writing. Instead, I decided to become a teacher.
I loved teaching, and I was fortunate enough to win many awards including becoming Arizona's Teacher of the Year and being selected as part of the All USA Top Twenty Teacher Team. Of course, I had my students do lots of writing, and in my 30+ years of teaching, I'm so proud that they won creative writing awards on a local, regional or national level every single year.
Now, I've also had my dream come true of seeing books I've written in libraries and schools throughout the US and other countries. Sometimes, people ask me if that means I'm done writing, but I hope not. It seems there's always another story in my head just waiting for me to get it right, put it on paper, and keep revising it until it works
